Our take on this category
GaN chargers matter because of what they let you leave at home. A 65W unit with two USB-C ports and one USB-A charges a thin-and-light laptop at close to full speed while topping up a phone, and it is smaller than the stock brick that came with the laptop. For travel in India that is one plug point instead of three, which is the difference between charging everything and negotiating for a socket at a hotel or on a train. Check the power split before buying: many 65W units drop to 45W and 20W when two ports are used, which is fine for a laptop plus phone, and not fine for two laptops.
Safety is where cheap units cut corners you cannot see. Buy one with BIS certification, over-voltage and over-temperature protection, and a body that gets warm but never hot enough to be uncomfortable to hold. Foldable pins are worth it because rigid pins tear bag linings and snap. Support for both USB-PD 3.0 and PPS covers Apple laptops, most Android phones, and Samsung's faster charging modes; without PPS your Samsung phone quietly charges slower. The one thing GaN cannot fix is your cable — a 60W or 100W rated USB-C cable is required, and a random old cable will silently cap your charging speed.
